Happy Memorial Day Y’all!

Hope everyone is having a relaxing weekend.
As promised, here are some photos of the shelter David built for Tinkerbell and Mr. Smee.
I was hoping he would write this blog post himself since he did the designing and crafting for this one and to be honest, I don’t really know what exact materials he used, but he’s been pretty busy so here goes my attempt:

It’s far from perfect, but it doesn’t really need to be perfect… all it needs to do is be a shelter for the pigs to stay safely dry when it rains/ maybe sleep in if they want.

Step 1:

Make the sides out of metal roofing material by affixing it to existing fence.

Step 2:

Insert wood posts into ground on opposite side.

Step 3:

Connect the wooden posts with the fence board 2”x 6″ by your desired length on the top.
Also, secure (using 2.5”-3”screws) the two posts in the ground to a third 4×4 post, laying on the ground…
The idea here was so the pigs cannot easily move the two posts that were in the ground.

Step 4:

Put up wood slats between the posts in the ground for extra support then attache more metal sheeting material to make a “wall.”

Step 5:

Attach metal sheeting material to the roof!  Then use a ton of caulk and make sure the roof is watertight!

(Note: We heard about the importance of ventilation, so we purposely left a gap on one of the sides up by the roof of the pig shed.)

AND… it works!  Pretty well, at least for now!  We put some cedar wood shavings on the bottom and the pigs cozy up in there almost every night!  Who knows what wear and tear will cause, and I’m sure we’ll have to make repairs, but c’est la vie.

I have a few projects to share with y’all in the next few weeks so stay tuned… fun things have been happening around here!
